Timeline

9th + 10th Grade

  • Do well in your classes

  • Ask for help if you're struggling

  • Get involved 

  • In 10th grade. you'll take the PSATs for the first time

11th Grade

  • Take the most demanding course load you're able to without compromising your grades and mental health

  • Meet with your counselor to discuss your postsecondary plans

  • Attend Bodine's college visit sessions​ in the fall

  • Take the PSATs in the fall

  • Study for the SAT/ACT

  • Attend Bodine's College Planning Night in January

  • Take the SAT/ACT in the spring for the first time

  • Start researching and visiting colleges

  • Start drafting a college list

  • Prepare for auditions if needed

  • Work on portfolios if needed

Summer Before 12th Grade

  • Start drafting a college essay

  • Think about which teachers you want to ask for letters of recommendation

  • Do something productive if you're able to - take a class, work, volunteer

  • Study for the SAT/ACT

12th Grade

  • Meet with your counselor to finalize your college list and discuss your college application plan

  • Ask two teachers for letters of recommendation, ideally from core academic classes

  • Re-take the SAT/ACT in the fall

  • Attend Financial Aid Night

  • Create an account on the Common App

  • Apply!

  • Fill out the FAFSA, PHEAA, and CSS Profile if needed

  • Apply to scholarships

  • Once you receive your decisions, compare financial aid awards

  • Deposit by May 1

  • Complete your Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling
